Bethlehem Landfill offers $10,000 in scholarship opportunities to graduating HS students
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The deadline is quickly approaching for graduating high school seniors to apply for one of 10 college scholarships — each valued at $1,000 — that are being offered by Bethlehem Landfill.
The annual scholarship opportunity is open to graduating seniors from these five local high schools: Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, Liberty, Saucon Valley and Southern Lehigh.
Eligibility and Deadline to Apply
Interested students must be accepted at a post-secondary school and have plans to pursue a degree in environmental science or engineering.
The deadline to apply is Friday, May 20. Interested students can downloand the application here or obtain a copy via their school guidance counselor office. Completed applications can be submitted to Dee Raisner at Bethlehem Landfill.
Impact on Young Students’ Futures
“We really look forward to our annual scholarship initiative each year because we get to have an impact in these students’ lives,” said Allen Schleyer, Bethlehem Landfill District Manager. “These will be our future leaders in the environmental science and engineering fields.”
This is the 16th consecutive year Bethlehem Landfill has supported local students through its scholarship initiative. In 2015, the Lower Saucon Township-based company, which is owned by Progressive Waste Solutions, awarded 11 scholarships, totaling $11,000.
“Thank you to everyone at Bethlehem Landfill for their generous scholarship opportunity and their continued investment in the academic futures of local students,” said John Petruzzelli, Bethlehem Catholic High School Principal. “Scholarships lighten the financial burden of attaining a higher education for a group of dedicated students as they continue to work towards reaching their goals.”
